Holidays in a wine region? Yes, but for the whole family! Whatever the time of year, parents and children can learn about the vine together with fun and instructive activities in Nouvelle-Aquitaine.

The Bordeaux wine region is a popular destination for wine lovers and is filled with activities that make it the perfect adventure playground for young and old alike.

Bordeaux’s Cité du Vin is a fantastic place for discovery that offers workshops where anyone can test their senses with sight, smell and taste-based experiments. Close by, at Château Bardins, children can learn to blindly identify different aromas before tasting grape juice, while adults sample the estate’s wines.

In the Médoc, at Château Saint Ahon, the whole family can stroll through the vines, guided by the estate’s donkey, during a visit to the Jardin de Mirabel. Interactive panels along the route explain viticulture to visitors of all ages.

At Château Sigalas Rabaud, in Graves and Sauternes, the focus is on fun and games! There are paper chases and a quiz to arouse the curiosity of younger generations into the world of winemaking. Over in Entre-deux-Mers, the Maison des Vins de Cadillac has a fun playground, the “Jeux de Raisin”. With a giant jigsaw, cup-and-ball game and riddles, children aged 3 to 12 can learn all about winegrowing and the vine cycle.

On the wine region’s right bank, close to Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, young visitors are transformed into wine-detectives during a treasure hunt or a family-friendly escape game at Château du Pas de l’Âne. Saint-Émilion is one of the wine region’s most iconic towns and also "Tell me about Saint-Émilion" tours for young ones, where children will learn about the heritage of this medieval town through three different themes.

Along the same lines, in Bourg and Blaye Château Marquis de Vauban offers an original heritage excursion for families in Blaye’s citadel aboard a mini-train or horse-drawn carriage.

With such a wide range of things to do, visiting the Bordeaux wine region as a family is pure child’s play!
